A happy memory...
I went allllll the way to Houston to see this man perform LIVE at the end of October. I swear, I wouldn't change a thing for the world.
'Cept maybe it being just me and him in the room. LOL.
He was singing the lyrics to "All For Love" when this picture was taken:
"I've played the fool before
Stared at the sun 'til it burned out my eyesight"
I SWEAR he was singing to me! LOL!!!
But yeah, I think about that trip and the impetus behind it and the feeling of freedom that it gave me and I can't help but smile. :)
I got Bilal's "Love for Sale"!!!! And all by myself!!! LOL.
I so happee! I so, so happee!
The good Lord knew I needed something like that today to help me deal with this Headache from Hell.
I just can't get the smile off my face now. It's stuck.
So, how did do with that weekend goal? No goal? What did you do this weekend?
LOL! My weekend goal...
I made it, surprisingly.
My weekend goal was to successfully babysit my godson - aka, return my godson to his home in the same condition in which I picked him up. LOL.
My godson, "Omee", is 7 months old. I've visited him numerous times but as of last week, I hadn't picked him up and taken him anywhere with me.
So Friday, I stopped by his mom's house, gathered some of his little belongings, including the most difficult to let-down playpen that was supposed to be the easiest to let-down playpen in the universe, and headed out. I was SO nervous the whole time. I had to drive at a normal speed, slow down at railroad crossings and contain my road-rage. Hey, I had a baby with me! Couldn't drive the way I usually do. Had to be "responsible". LOL!
Of course he would have a little cold when I go to get him, no other time. LOL. I took my baby home and watched him snatched out of my own arms by the hands of my mother, who had previously adamantly stated that I was embarking on this endeavor ALONE. I should NOT look for any assistance from her. So imagine my surprise at being allowed to gas up the car, get something to eat and then eat with her watching the baby for me. Awwwwww. She couldn't resist. I knew as soon as she saw him her whole attitude would change, and it did.
That night, I tell you. Lord, have mercy! That baby did not want to go to sleep. When I'm around children of any age, I start to get sleepy EARLY. Like, 9pm, I'm trying to snuggle under the covers and SLEEP. This child refused to go to sleep until well after 11pm. He was very irritated at the fact that he could not breathe properly because of his congestion. But I didn't get irritated. I stayed as calm as possible and made him as comfortable as possible until he fell asleep on my chest.
I did not get one full comfortable hour of sleep Friday or Saturday night. When I say Omee sleeps like a fully grown man, I am not even exaggerating. For his size, to be able to make a fully grown woman move over so that he can take residence in the spot on the bed is amazing. LOL.
Know what? I take that back. I've never even met a grown man who sleep like that.
Omee talks, sings and full-out crawls in his sleep. So in addition to trying to find a comfortable spot on a queen-sized bed for ME to sleep on, I had to also sleep with one eye open to make sure that child didn't crawl off the edge of the bed, which, one time, I caught him hanging off halfway.
Saturday, I had to wake up and get him up and ready to go to the doctor's office for an immunization shot he needed. Thank goodness he fell asleep for a little while longer, which gave me a chance to bathe and get dressed mydamnself. Got him up (for real), bathed, dressed and fly, and we headed out.
He was a soldier at the doctor's office. His mom had told me he was a monster before about his shots but he was alright with me. He cried for maybe 10 seconds and that was it.
I took him into a shoe store where I got quite offended. Another shopper (an older WASP) looked at "my baby", said, "Aren't you just the cutest thing!", smiled then said, "Hmmp. A future football player."
Skrrt! Flag on the play!
Why "my baby" gotta grow up to be a football player?! Out of all the occupations and aspirations, she gotta pick up "Football Player".
I wasn't havin' it. Wasn't gon' let her off that easy.
I finally acknowledged her with, "Or lawyer. Who knows." At her "hmmph!" in reply, me and "my baby" proceeded to walk to the other aisle.
Don't pigeon-hole "my baby" like that. No, no, no. "My baby" can be whatever he wants to be in life. This includes being a football player. But I just really took offense to the implication that his best bet would be to aspire to be a football player. Umm, that would be no and I'ma need you to get it right.
Did some other walking around and took Omee back home for a nap. "We" napped real long and hard too. I was surprised. I knew the exhaustion from the night before was my reason. I guess his moment of pain at the doctor's office and the heat outside was too much for him. Out like lights.
Got up and passed him around the room when some family members stopped by the house unexpectedly. Gathered him up and went to Miss E's house for pizza and Tyler Perry's "Family Reunion". (This must be my year to see all his movies. LOL.) She was amazed at him pulling himself up to stand upright at every turn.
I finally burned some songs off of Bilal's never-to-be-released "Love for Sale". I only got about 5. I was trying to hold out, as he requested, but I couldn't take it any longer. #2 will be the outro for my wedding. Buhlee dat! :)
Got "my baby" home, gave him a bottle and he was out for the night.
Sunday morning, I had dreams of making it to Sunday School but, after another sleepless night and a 6:51am feeding, I had to let those dreams go. We both were awakened by a 9:30am call. I let dem people - aka my 'rents - play with him for a while as I got all his stuff together to take him back home.
I took Omee home and missed him as soon as I closed the door to head back downstairs to my car. :( It was difficult at first to adjust to not having him in the backseat or holding him on my side.
But he had to go home. 'Twas for the best. I can't be nobody momma right now! LOL.
Lawd, I'm still tired! But I wouldn't trade my weekend for the world. I really enjoyed having him with me and I look forward to the next time.
